I’m going to have a visitor soon. I will be taking care of a friend’s pet, a manic King Charles Spaniel. My own dogs are old and completely disinterested in my studio and my supplies. Mr. Needs Lots of Tranquilizers Now is a different story. I’ll have to “baby proof” the studio before he comes.
I love paint colors. All those tubes of paints are so full of possibility. Each manufacturer has a recipe for each color and the colors are the result of chemistry, history, profit and artists’ demands. Paint is a lot safer today than it has been in the past. Historical favorites are still produced today in spite of toxicity. Some of them, like vermillion and manganese blue, are just so beautiful, you could feel like they’re worth the risk. But not while The Baby is here. I still get the shakes when I remember the frightened owner screaming” “He’s going upstairs! The paint!” as I pounded up the stairs after a brown and white streak. Mr. NLOTN was so excited he didn’t have time to get into anything. He just knocked everything he could over.
Baby gate. Baby gate. Baby gate.
