Spring is a Tramp.

Spring has hit here full blast, and it’s pretty hard to concentrate with so many different perfumes pouring through the window! My studio is on the top floor of our house, surrounded by eleven windows, and on a day like today, you can’t help but want to throw them all open. Here in Charleston, we only get a few mild days of spring before a sticky humidity sets into your skin, and I fear we’re nearing the end of those days. The trees have given all their flowers and are waxy with full leaves.

Inspiration is all around, but there is a reason why artists have problems depicting this time of year. Our paintings end up looking garish and unrealistic when in fact it’s the fault of Mother Nature. She’s like a woman who doesn’t know how to dress very well, so she puts on every colored dress she has in the closet. Coconut Palms (above) is the perfect example of this garish phenomenon. However, give me big bold colors any day. I love them all.
